BINDING AND BASHAS’ SEND COUPLE TO PARADISE

Clausthaler Non-Alcoholic Beer Putting Contest is a Hole in One

PHOENIX, Ariz. (Aug. 19, 2004) – A husband and wife are on their way to paradise thanks to Clausthaler non-alcoholic beer and 620KTAR-AM in Phoenix. The N.A. brand and the popular local radio station co-hosted a “Putt Your Way to Paradise” golf contest at the Bashas’ Supermarket at 5310 South Superstition Mountain Drive in Gold Canyon, Ariz., on July 15.
BBUSA invested in a one-month advertising campaign on KTAR to drive consumers to in-store displays of Clausthaler and invite them to participate in the contest. Prospective winners were randomly selected from a large pool of applicants to try their hands at a 10-ft. putt that would send two lucky winners to Hawaii.
“This contest establishes our on-going commitment to our retailers, consumers and distributors, to be the only importer that financially supports the non-alcoholic beer category in the U.S. with innovative marketing programs,” said Dave Deuser, vice president of sales for Clausthaler importer Binding Brauerei USA, Norwalk, Conn.
“We are pleased to be able to send contest winner Bill Dewitt and his wife to Hawaii and we look forward to sending others to desirable travel destinations in the future.” The winners will stay at their choice of Apple Vacations hotels for five days, courtesy of Clausthaler and Apple Vacations. Approximately 800 people sent in application forms to test their skill. The majority of the entrants filled in forms available at 80 Bashas’ locations around Arizona, with online registrations adding to the response. Each of the 10 finalists in the contest were asked to sink a 10-ft. putt to place them in the running for the golf and beach vacation. The contest took two rounds of putting on the artificial surface inside the Bashas’ supermarket before the ten-footer was finally sunk.
Each of the other nine contestants received a case of Clausthaler with two six-packs of Clausthaler Classic and another two sixes of Clausthaler Amber, a free round of golf for a twosome at a choice of eight courses in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area, a $50 gift certificate to the Kona Grill restaurant, a sleeve of Clausthaler golf balls, and t-shirts from Clausthaler and KTAR.
BBUSA, a subsidiary of Radeberger Gruppe AG in Frankfurt, was established in June 1999, and now imports and distributes Radeberger Premium Pilsner, Clausthaler Classic and Amber Non-Alcoholic, DAB Original and DAB Dark, and Henninger beers.
